Frequently Asked Questions
Clinical hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation and focused attention to help you explore thoughts, feelings and habits and practise new ways of responding. You remain aware and in control throughout. At Clinical Mind Hypnotherapy, Dr Rhiannon Lewis tailors sessions to your goals and can see you online or in person in North Wales.
Clinical hypnotherapy is a private, goal focused therapy agreed between you and your practitioner. Stage hypnosis is entertainment for an audience. During a clinical session, you can question a suggestion, decline it or stop at any time.
Yes. You can hear what is happening and remain in control during a hypnotherapy session. You do not have to accept any suggestion, and you can bring yourself out of the relaxed state if you wish.
People come to Clinical Mind Hypnotherapy for support with stress, anxiety, burnout, sleep difficulties, phobias, confidence, grief, emotional eating and unwanted habits. Hypnotherapy may also help some people manage symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), persistent pain or long term health conditions alongside their medical care. Dr Lewis will discuss what you are experiencing and whether hypnotherapy is appropriate for you.
Your first session is a chance to discuss what you would like help with and agree a plan. Dr Lewis will introduce practical techniques you can begin using straight away and provide an audio recording to practise between sessions. Follow up sessions usually include a conversation about your progress, techniques suited to your needs and guided relaxation.
It depends on your goals and circumstances. Some people choose one or two sessions, while a typical course is around three to six sessions. Dr Lewis will review your progress with you, so you can decide together what feels useful.
Hypnotherapy is generally a low risk approach when it is provided appropriately, but it is not suitable for everyone. Tell Dr Lewis about any medical or mental health conditions, epilepsy, medication and treatment you are receiving before starting. She can then discuss whether hypnotherapy is appropriate or whether you should seek advice from another healthcare professional first.
Often, yes. Clinical hypnotherapy can provide additional support while you continue medical treatment or another form of therapy. It should not replace a diagnosis, prescribed medication or treatment recommended by your healthcare team. Let Dr Lewis know what care you are receiving so your sessions can be planned appropriately.
No. You can contact Clinical Mind Hypnotherapy directly through the website or by text to arrange a free initial phone call. If you have symptoms that are new, persistent or concerning, speak to your GP as well.
Suitability depends on your health and what you would like help with. Hypnotherapy may be unsuitable if you have a history of psychosis or epilepsy, and some other conditions need careful assessment. Please mention any relevant diagnoses when you enquire so Dr Lewis can advise on the next step. Clinical Mind Hypnotherapy does not see children under 16.
Yes. Dr Lewis offers online hypnotherapy sessions as well as appointments in North Wales. Online sessions can be convenient if you live further away or want to fit therapy around work and other commitments. You will need a reliable internet connection and a quiet, private space; sessions are arranged over WhatsApp.
There is no special preparation. Wear something comfortable and, if your session is online, choose a quiet place where you are unlikely to be interrupted. It may help to think about what you would like to change or get support with, but you do not need to have everything worked out before you arrive.
Dr Rhiannon Lewis offers in person hypnotherapy appointments in Llangollen and at consulting rooms near Denbigh, North Wales. If travelling is inconvenient, you can arrange an online session instead. Contact Clinical Mind Hypnotherapy to ask about availability and the location of your appointment.
Yes. Dr Lewis offers a free initial 30 minute phone call. It is an opportunity to explain what you are looking for, ask questions and discuss whether hypnotherapy could be a suitable option. There is no need to commit to a course of sessions during the call.
Dr Lewis is a medical doctor and qualified hypnotherapist. Her medical experience helps her consider the relationship between physical symptoms, stress and emotional wellbeing when planning sessions. She also recognises when a concern needs medical investigation or specialist support, and can use hypnotherapy alongside appropriate healthcare rather than treating it as a replacement.
