EMDR-Informed Hypnotherapy in North Wales: Support for Difficult Experiences

Some experiences continue to affect us long after they are over. A memory may bring a sudden rush of anxiety, or you may notice a familiar reaction that is difficult to shift even when you understand it logically. I am pleased to share that, following further training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), I now offer EMDR-informed hypnotherapy at Clinical Mind Hypnotherapy in North Wales.
What is EMDR?
EMDR is a structured psychological therapy used to help people process distressing or traumatic memories. It may involve guided eye movements or other forms of alternating left and right stimulation while working with a memory in a supported way. The aim is for the memory to feel less distressing, although the experience is not erased. EMDR is included in NICE guidance as a treatment option for adults with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in appropriate circumstances.
What does EMDR-informed hypnotherapy mean?
Hypnotherapy and EMDR are different approaches. In my practice, EMDR-informed hypnotherapy brings techniques informed by my EMDR training into a tailored hypnotherapy session. Guided relaxation and focused attention can help you feel grounded while we explore patterns, responses and experiences at a pace that feels manageable.
I use the term EMDR-informed deliberately. This combined approach is not the same as a standard course of EMDR therapy, and the evidence for EMDR in PTSD should not be assumed to apply in exactly the same way to a combined treatment. We will talk through what you need and whether this approach, another therapy or specialist support is the most appropriate next step.
Who might consider this approach?
You may be interested if a past experience still feels emotionally raw, if certain situations trigger anxiety, or if you recognise a repeated response that you would like to understand and change. Every person's circumstances are different. Our first conversation gives us space to discuss your goals, your health and any treatment you are already receiving before deciding how to proceed.
A medically informed, individual approach
As a medical doctor and qualified hypnotherapist, I consider both the physical and emotional sides of what you are experiencing. My role is also to recognise the limits of hypnotherapy and when medical assessment or specialist trauma therapy may be more suitable. You remain involved in decisions about your care throughout.
